India’s first UNESCO ‘City of Literature’

In a landmark recognition of its rich literary heritage and vibrant cultural scene, Calicut (Kozhikode) has been named India’s first UNESCO ‘City of Literature.’ This prestigious title places the city among a select group of literary hubs around the world, further cementing its status as a cradle of knowledge, art, and cultural diversity.

This recognition is part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), which highlights cities that have successfully integrated culture and creativity into their development strategies.
